Persona 4: The Animation is a television anime series produced by AIC ASTA and directed by Seiji Kishi, based on the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 video game by Atlus.
Persona 4: The Animation is a 25 episode anime adaptation of the PS2 video game, Persona 4, with the true ending to the series released as a film. In it, city boy Yu Narukami finds himself spending a year in the boonies of Inaba, living with his uncle, Ryotaro Dojima, and his young daughter, Nanako. Right as he settles into small town life at high school, a murder occurs with the body being hung from a power line. Rumors soon spread of a Midnight Channel, where if you look at a television at midnight with the lights off during a foggy night, you will see your soul mate. Yu decides to give this a try and finds himself nearly eaten by his television after putting his hand up to it. He shares this incident with his classmates Chie and Yosuke who find it odd when they both saw a girl.
Circumstances then lead to them wondering where fellow classmate Yukiko Amagi has gone missing; only for her to appear on the Midnight Channel soon after. However, the Yukiko depicted here is nothing like the Yukiko they've known. Eventually the three steel themselves into entering the Midnight Channel to rescue Yukiko. During this adventure, they learn of Shadows, the darker impulses and thoughts that humans have, given flesh. Eventually, Yu, Chie, and Yosuke use their 'personas' (similar to a shadow, but they serve as extensions of the persona-user) to find Yukiko dealing with her Shadow self. A battle ensues after Yukiko rejects that both of them are the same person.
Yukiko eventually accepts 'Shadow Yukiko' as part of her, even if she's not proud of that aspect. This self-confidence awakens her persona, allowing her to serve alongside the rest of the freshly-christened 'Investigation Team.' The rest of the series focuses on Yu as he balances school life with investigating the murders, never resting until he divines the ultimate truth. Much like the game it's adapted from, the Animation has two endings; one 'normal' and one true.
